In November 2007, the Council of Archery Sport resolved to change its name to Archery South Africa. This decision was taken to align itself with the branding process that both the Department of Sport & Recreation and the SA Sport Commission and Olympic Confederation were undertaking towards the goal of Sport South Africa.
In January, Archery South Africa, the body representing all target and field archery in the country (including SANAA and SANIFAA) opened a competition to all its members and invited all interested parties to submit an idea for a new logo. The logo would have to represent both the sport and the country.
The competition closed on 31 May 2008 and the winner was selected by the executive committees of the affiliated associations. The winning entry was designed by Joey Pastoll, a professional graphic designer who based her design on the colours of the South African flag and a barebow.
Some 30 entries were received, many of a very high standard, making the task difficult. Archery South Africa would like to thank all those who submitted entries for their entry and efforts, and by agreement, reserve the right to use their creations at a later stage for promotional purposes, medals and pins.
The executive of Archery South Africa have adopted the winning design for use in all national matters.
